Course content
- Introduction to electrical safety: Identifying potential dangers like electric shock, burns, arc flash, and explosions.
- Electrical Principles: Basic Electrical Concepts, understanding terms like voltage, current, resistance, and power. Learning about series and parallel circuits and their behavior. Understanding the effects of electricity on the human body.
- Safe Work Practices: Procedures for working on or near live electrical/energized equipment, including lockout/tagout procedures.
- Safe Use of Electrical Equipment: Proper handling and maintenance of portable tools, machinery, and other equipment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Selection and use of appropriate PPE, such as insulated gloves, footwear, and clothing.
- Safe Work Environment: Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-lit work area, including proper housekeeping practices. Specific procedures and precaution when working with Overhead Lines and Underground Cables.
- Emergency Procedures: Responding to Electrical Accidents, knowing how to react to emergencies like electric shock or fire. Emergency shut down procedures
- Testing and Maintenance: Learning how to properly test electrical equipment and circuits, establishing safety related maintenance. Understanding the importance of proper grounding and bonding in electrical systems.
- Specific Equipment and Situations: Working with Portable Ladders. Understanding the risks and precautions associated with working near water sources. Understanding the risks and precautions when working in potentially explosive environments.
- Lockout/Tagout Procedures: De-energizing Equipment, properly shutting down and isolating equipment during maintenance or repairs. Using appropriate lockout devices to prevent accidental re-energization. Effectively using tag-out procedures to warn others of potential hazards.
