Working At Height

A working at height course typically covers topics such as understanding the risks and hazards associated with working at height, selecting and using appropriate equipment (including PPE), safe access and egress methods, emergency procedures, and relevant legal requirements.

Course content

  1. Introduction and Regulations: Defining “working at height” and understanding the scope of activities covered. Overview of relevant legislation, regulations, and legal responsibilities for employers and employees. Understanding the importance of safe systems of work and risk assessment. s
  2. Hazards and Risk Assessment: Identifying common hazards associated with working at height, such as falls, falling objects, and fragile surfaces. Conducting thorough risk assessments to identify potential dangers and implement control measures.  Understanding the hierarchy of control and selecting appropriate control measures.
  3. Equipment and Systems: Choosing and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as harnesses, lanyards, and helmets.  Understanding the selection, inspection, and maintenance of fall protection equipment. Proper use of access equipment like ladders, scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
  4. Safe Practices: Developing safe work procedures for various tasks at height. Understanding safe access and egress methods. Implementing measures to prevent falls and protect against falling objects.
  5. Emergency Procedures: Developing and practicing emergency and rescue procedures for falls.  Understanding the dangers of suspension trauma and how to respond. Knowing how to conduct a pre-use inspection of fall protection equipment.
  6. Practical Application: Hands-on training on the use of fall protection equipment. Practice with equipment inspection and maintenance. Simulated scenarios to practice emergency and rescue procedures.
