Among the tools available for occupiers and managers of hazardous installations to check and reassure the effectiveness of procedures and methods followed on safety, the most useful tool is Safety Audit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety Audit is normally carried out by an outside team and will examine all facilities and activities of an organization from the angle of safety, assess the current level of prevention, protection and emergency management preparedness and subsequently prepare an action plan to upgrade safety inputs to avert mishaps and limit consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Comply with the requirement of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) \u2013 2007.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To carry out a systematic, critical appraisal of all potential hazards involving personnel, plant, services and operation method; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that Safety and Health system fully satisfy the legal requirement and those of the company\u2019s written safety policies, objectives and progress.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scope of the Safety and Health Audit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the requirements of the organization, the audit can focus attention on the following aspects of a safety system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Safety Management systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fire and Explosion prevention, protection and emergency management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work injury prevention.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health hazards control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluating emergency plan if already available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machinery Safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant Safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe Systems of Work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Housekeeping, Lighting, Ventilation and Overcrowding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifies loss producing events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess the potential losses associated with the risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifies measures to minimize the losses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifies system deficiencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Industries which handle large quantities of hazardous substances are required to demonstrate their capability to design, locate, operate and maintain facilities to standards acceptable to the Government and public.
